Six for the long nights
The clocks have gone back. Here is what we are playing upstairs while it’s dark at five.
November in the shop means the lamps come on at half four and the ballads come out of the back bins. These are the six the staff keep putting on the deck.
John Roe’s After the Last Train is the one people ask about at the till. An original mono copy came in last week, and it plays quieter than most reissues.
For the brave, Joe Bloggs’s Steam & Iron, which is not a long-night record at all, but it will keep you awake for the walk home.
“The lamps come on at half four and the ballads come out of the back bins.”
